Grog x Nero D'Inferno
The term legacy is often used improperly, but it perfectly describes the impact of Nero D’Inferno within the Italian and European graffiti game. A tincture for leather, extremely covering and penetrating, whose inheritance has been collected by Grog in the early ‘00s. That's why this special collaboration looks like a handover between a legend of the past and one of today.
It’s virtually impossible tracing the whole Nero D’Inferno thing back to the first person who tried this liquid dye on metal or other similar surfaces. Actually, it’s not even that crucial. The interesting part is what happened after - Nero D’Inferno becoming worldwide popular at a time when markers could be refilled only with ink, the rise and fall of DIY markers, the golden age of bombing culture.
At least, this until the patent owner company decided to change the chemical composition of Nero D’Inferno, switching to a less toxic formulation - and less penetrating as well, a sore point for many writers. Especially for four guys based in Milan and Pavia, who turned into small chemists to develop a brand new indelible liquid dye that would replace the good old Nero D’Inferno. At that time they might not know how the situation would have evolved after, but in fact they have just started Grog.
“When we started Grog, we felt a bit like the Devil printed on the Nero D’Inferno label, filling buckets and buckets from an ink barrel. Which is pretty similar to what we started doing in our backyard.”
