Decades 2 2000-2010

Presented as a 328-page hardback volume with bilingual texts in German and English, “Decades 2 2000–2010” brings together over 760 photographs selected from the archives of individual graffiti artists to chart the radical transformation experienced by the Berlin scene in the early 2000s. The decade under scrutiny marks the transition from the ‘wildstyle’ of the 1990s to a marked diversification and plurality of visual languages, including the emergence of the famous ‘Anti-Style’, accompanied by a dramatic increase in train graffiti; but the book also explores the profound urban metamorphosis – particularly in former East Berlin and the Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood – documenting the loss of historic graffiti on façades that were disappearing. Divided into chronological two-year chapters, the book shines a spotlight on no fewer than 28 profiles dedicated to historic crews and avant-garde writers of the period, bringing together intimate anecdotes, reflections and often completely unpublished archive material from legends and iconic groups such as CO2, TFZ, METRO, EHSONE, SPAIR, MR.IX, ROGER and MC BOMBER.
