Led by the necessity to use the right tools to hike in the San Fernando Valley, in 1973 Yvon Chouinard founded Patagonia, a worldwide respected outdoor brand that manufactures eco-sustainable mountain clothing. Patagonia made wool and cotton-based mountain gears obsolete by patenting a new type of synthetic pile fleece. Besides winter outerwear, every Patagonia drop also comes with a range of sweatshirts, T-shirts and casual garments. Given that Patagonia completely renovated the outdoor world, the American company is also appreciated as a lifestyle brand, applying its personal flair on many different lines that include mountain clothing, running, surf, technical outerwear and everyday apparel. Layering comes from Patagonia: most of the brand’s jackets are easy-to-wear garments for every sort of climate, made of three levels – one inner layer to fight the damp, an intermediate pile fleece and a waterproof coating. Staying dry is way easier thanks to natural fibers such as polypropylene and hemp, reducing the environmental impact and maintaining a high-quality performance. It’s no coincidence that those textures make up most of Patagonia jackets. The American label has always cared about nature by fighting pollution, deforestation and greenhouse gasses with specific actions, like making a wide use of recycled cotton and Bluedesing® dyeing technologies. Waterproof jackets, quilted outerwear, warm pile sherpas are the brand’s core offering, further complemented by a multifaceted selection of sweatshirts, bottoms, tees and useful accessories. Sherpa jackets are crafted using high-quality and environmentally friendly fabrics, just like Patagonia’s hardshells and sleeveless jackets. Plus, sweatshirts are made using a blend of recycled textures and organic cotton, including the most technical models, later decorated with chest logo printing or subtle detailing. That said, Patagonia’s highlight remains its diverse, highly technical range of winter jackets, where the brand’s unmatched care for details really sticks out. The performance side of outerwear is also taken care of by crucial features – breathable padding, waterproof removable layers, windproof hardshells and many more. In short, Patagonia is the best example of sustainable outdoor clothing, an undisputed streetwear icon and a valid option for casual wearers.
